A couple of years back I used an ETEK motor to convert a 1.5&quot; scale &quot;Diesel&quot; locomotive from a gas / hydraulic to battery electric. The project was very successful, motor worked very well.

Yes the components are expensive.

Take a look at the 4QD controllers from England.

I have seen a photo of one car where the electric motor was fitted to a 5th wheel which dropped down on to the road surface when needed.
